Basic concepts

Power plant turbines and aircraft engines are both fluid flow engines. Pressurised hot gases or water vapour are released in them to conduct their work: they press on the rotating blades of the turbines.

In steam power plants, the turbines produce up to 1.3 gigawatts of usable power – which is around 1.8 million HP. Even the relatively small aircraft engines used in large passenger jets generate an incredible thrust.

Fluid flow engines are the jewels in the crown of machine engineering.
